What is Vegan Leather?
Vegan leather, also known as plant-based leather or fruit leather, is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal-derived leather. As a kind of faux leather, it is crafted from sustainable materials such as biodegradable plant fibers and recycled plastic bottles or safety glasses on mobile phone and scrapped car glasses, primarily composed of recycled polyvinyl butyral (rPVB). The production process involves collecting these fibers and plastics and glasses, grinding them into a fine powder, and then bonding them to the back of polyurethane (PU) leather. This method not only reduces waste but also ensures that the material is recyclable and environmentally friendly.
Products made from vegan leather can be recycled at the end of their lifecycle. Through specialized recycling processes, the materials are broken down, allowing the extraction of plant fibers and plastic particles, which can be used to manufacture new vegan leather products. This closed-loop system minimizes environmental pollution and promotes the sustainable use of resources. By choosing vegan leather, consumers contribute to a reduction in the demand for animal hides and support practices that are less harmful to the planet.
What is Faux Leather?
Faux leather is a synthetic alternative to genuine leather, known for being animal-friendly and eco-conscious. It can be mass-produced, offering a similar texture to genuine leather at a more affordable price. Types of faux leather include PU leather, PVC leather and Bonded leather, making it versatile and cost-effective.
